Caliche’s COO, Doug Rush to speak at the ACHMM National Conference

The ACHMM National Conference is scheduled for August 12 – 15, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, VA. On Monday, August 13, Doug will discuss “The Future of Outsourcing EHS and It’s Impact on the EHS Professional” from 1:30 – 2:15 pm.

He will also present “How You Can Get the Most of Your Industrial Hygiene Assessment: A Systematic and Comprehensive Approach to Exposure Assessment” from 2:25 – 3:10 pm.

The Future of Outsourcing EHS and Its Impact on the EHS Professional

Outsourcing is a $6 trillion global industry and one of the most discussed topics of the day. It is also one of the very few business tools available to managers with the power to fundamentally transform their organizations.

Many companies are outsourcing their entire EHS program, leaving only a top level manager to make final decisions. If you have ever wondered how this valuable tool may impact your future, you will want to hear this presentation. Mr. Rush will provide you with information on current trends in this direction and generally discuss many of the key points involved to making this process easier for both the company and employees involved in this course of action seen as being increasingly more prevalent in the new millennium.

How You Can Get the Most of Your Industrial Hygiene Assessment: A Systematic and Comprehensive Approach to Exposure Assessment

This presentation will provide a working and practical methodology for assessment of potential health risks faced by all workers. The method presented will discuss how to differentiate between acceptable and unacceptable exposures, establishment of a process to document historical exposure levels and communication of findings to employees and management.

The discussion will focus on how to prioritize health risks to ensure efficient and effective allocation of time and resources. A case study will be presented highlighting the effectiveness of the method. A systematic and comprehensive approach to exposure assessment is an effective mechanism for managing industrial hygiene programs. A thorough understanding of exposures allows the industrial hygiene program, including control efforts, to be prioritized to protect employees and manage exposure-related risks. It also puts the industrial hygienist in position to better manage the unpredictable changes that will occur both in knowledge of the health effects of environmental agents and in society’s tolerance of workplace exposures.

Exposure assessment is judging an exposure, and judgments are made in the context of available exposure information and the potential health effects caused by the specific environmental agent. There is a dynamic relationship between exposure assessment and the application of health hazard control practices
